At the outset, I express my gratitude to Almighty Allah. Through the sacrifice of thousands of martyrs, we have been able to safeguard the independence and sovereignty of our country and its people. In a Bangladesh free from subservience, a new government accountable to the people has begun its journey through the people’s vote. At this historic moment of restoring democracy and the rights of the people, I extend my heartfelt greetings and congratulations to the nation. It is because of the freedom-loving, democracy-seeking people that we have once again gained the opportunity to restore dignity, rights, and honor in our country.

 

I wish to convey a clear message to the people: Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Christian—regardless of party, faith, ethnicity, or whether living in the hills or the plains—this country belongs to all of us. We want to make this land safe for every citizen. Establishing a self-reliant, secure, humane, and democratic Bangladesh is the goal of the BNP government.

 

The new government has begun its journey amid a fragile economy battered by corruption and misrule during the fascist era, weakened governance structures, and a deteriorating law and order situation. Restoring peace and security in the minds of the people through improving law and order and firmly controlling corruption is our top priority. The spread of gambling and drugs across the country has been identified as a major cause of the decline in law and order. Therefore, law enforcement agencies are taking strict measures to control gambling and drugs. The government is undertaking maximum efforts to ensure peace and security in public life. Every constitutional, public, and private institution will operate according to established laws and regulations. Not partisan influence or coercion, but the rule of law will be the final word in state governance.

 

The holy month of Ramadan begins across the country from tomorrow. I extend my greetings to the nation on this sacred month. Ramadan is a month of self-purification. If we truly understand its essence, it should not be a time of increased hardship for people. Unfortunately, we often observe a tendency among some to seek excessive profits during this month. I urge you not to treat Ramadan as a season for profiteering. Businesspersons must remain cautious so that the prices of essential goods do not go beyond the reach of ordinary people. After the fall of a mafia syndicate through the sacrifice of thousands of lives, we have assumed responsibility for governing the state with a commitment to establish the people’s rights. The BNP government is determined to dismantle all syndicates of corruption and irregularities, Insha’Allah.

 

The government’s approach toward businesses—large or small—is clear and straightforward. We seek to protect the interests of both businesspeople and consumers. The government is ready to listen to any suggestions or complaints regarding what measures can keep the market stable and protect both buyers and sellers. This government belongs to you. You have entrusted it with the responsibility of governing through your votes. You are the strength of this government.

 

During Ramadan, especially at the times of Iftar, Tarawih, and Sehri, fasting individuals expect uninterrupted gas, water, and electricity supply. I have already instructed the relevant authorities to ensure this. Preventing waste and practicing moderation is a moral duty. I believe being mindful of unnecessary or excessive use of gas, electricity, and water in offices and institutions is also a part of responsible conduct.

 

Before calling upon government employees and the public to practice austerity, I wanted to set an example through ministers and BNP Members of Parliament. In the first meeting of the BNP parliamentary party, we decided that no BNP MP will import tax-free vehicles or accept plot allocations as government privileges. I had promised that if given the opportunity to govern, the BNP would follow the noble Prophet’s example of justice and fairness. I believe these decisions reflect that commitment.

 

Traffic congestion in divisional cities, especially in Dhaka, has become nearly uncontrollable. Public suffering is widespread. Without reducing public hardship, people cannot feel relief. Reducing the population pressure in the capital has become essential. With this goal, we have undertaken initiatives to modernize the railway communication system nationwide so that people can work and conduct business efficiently while living in their own districts. As part of this plan, the functions of the rail, road, bridge, and shipping sectors are being reorganized and coordinated. A safe, affordable, and accessible railway system will reduce overdependence on cities and benefit the environment as well.

 

There is no shortage of challenges around us, but there is also no shortage of potential. If we can transform our large population into skilled manpower, it will become our greatest resource. By developing our skills, not only Bangladesh but the global market will open to us. The world has entered the era of artificial intelligence. To survive with dignity and prosperity in this competitive technological world, we must excel in at least one skill or field. To the millions of students and young people, I say: the government is ready to provide all possible support to help you develop your knowledge and skills. We have begun our journey with a firm commitment to ensuring employment opportunities and a conducive working environment.

 

Dear Fellow Citizens,

After returning to the country on December 25 last year, following nearly 18 years abroad, I said, “I have a plan” for the country and its people. Before the February 12 national election, I presented many aspects of that plan across the country. You have entrusted the BNP, founded by the Proclaimer of Independence, with the responsibility of governing. Now it is our duty to implement every commitment. We have already begun working on our promises, Insha’Allah, and we seek your continued support.

 

As head of government, I want to emphasize: whether you voted for the BNP, against it, or did not vote at all, your rights under this government are equal. The BNP government believes that while party, faith, and ideology may differ, the state belongs to everyone. As citizens of Bangladesh, each of us has equal rights.

 

May Allah keep us all safe and healthy. May He grant us the ability to implement all our positive plans. On the auspicious beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, I conclude my address with this prayer.
