Prime Minister Mr. Tarique Rahman has called upon everyone to be economical in the use of electricity.
To set an example, he himself reduced electricity consumption in his office at the Secretariat by turning off half of the lights in his room and lowering the level of air conditioning.
He also advised all ministries and institutions to adopt electricity-saving measures.
On Thursday morning, the Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman confirmed the matter. He said that at 9:10 am the Prime Minister arrived at his office at the Secretariat. Upon entering his office, he turned off the switches of 50 percent of the lights and set the air conditioner temperature to 25.1 degrees, which helps reduce electricity consumption.
Not only that, upon entering the Cabinet Room for the cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister instructed that half of the lights in the room be turned off and the air conditioning level be reduced.
Building No. 1 of the Secretariat houses the Prime Minister’s Office, where the Cabinet Division and several departments under the Prime Minister operate.
The Additional Press Secretary further said that following the Prime Minister’s initiative, half of the lights in all rooms of his office were immediately turned off and the air conditioning levels were reduced.
The Prime Minister also urged all ministries at the Secretariat, government offices across the country, private buildings, shopping malls, markets, and various institutions to adopt electricity-saving practices.
At the same time, he advised everyone to reduce the use of electric lights during the daytime and instead open curtains in offices and homes to utilize natural sunlight.
