Prime Minister Mr. Tarique Rahman has directed the immediate relocation of four major intercity bus terminals from Dhaka as part of efforts to ease traffic congestion in the capital.
The decision was made during a meeting on traffic congestion reduction and traffic management modernization held at the Cabinet Division conference room in the Secretariat on Sunday afternoon, according to Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu.
He stated that the Prime Minister instructed the authorities to expedite the relocation of four intercity bus terminals outside the city limits to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in Dhaka.
The four bus terminals are:
- Fulbaria–Gulistan Bus Terminal
- Gabtoli Bus Terminal
- Mohakhali Bus Terminal
- Sayedabad–Jatrabari Bus Terminal
Under the decision, the Fulbaria–Gulistan Bus Terminal will be relocated to Keraniganj. The Mohakhali Bus Terminal will be temporarily shifted to the eastern part of the city before being permanently relocated near Tongi. The Gabtoli Intercity Bus Terminal will be moved to Hemayetpur, while the Sayedabad–Jatrabari Bus Terminal will be relocated to Kanchpur.
The Deputy Press Secretary further said that the Prime Minister also directed the authorities to remove the numerous scattered bus counters operating across the capital and relocate them to designated locations as soon as possible.
The meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister, held extensive discussions on modernizing Dhaka’s traffic management system, including the installation of AI-powered traffic cameras and other technology-based solutions.
The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over the positive outcomes achieved through the deployment of AI-based traffic signaling and monitoring systems.
This was the Prime Minister’s third meeting focused specifically on addressing traffic congestion and improving traffic management in the capital.
Among those present at the meeting were Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed; Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Sheikh Rabiul Alam; State Minister Habibur Rashid Habib; Member of Parliament Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas; Administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation Abdus Salam; Administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation Shafiqul Islam Khan; Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani; Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar; Home Secretary Manjur Morshed Chowdhury; Chairman of RAJUK Riazul Islam; and senior officials from the relevant ministries and government agencies.
