The National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganisation (NICAR) has approved the establishment of three new upazilas and one new police station (thana).
The newly approved upazilas are Fatikchhari North in Chattogram, Bangra in Cumilla, and South Gafargaon in Mymensingh. The newly approved police station is Halda Police Station in Chattogram.
The approvals were granted at the 121st meeting of the National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganisation (NICAR), held on Wednesday at the Cabinet Division conference room in the Secretariat and chaired by BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Mr. Tarique Rahman, according to the Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary, Hasan Shiplu.
He said, "The meeting of the National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganisation (NICAR), chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, approved these new upazilas and police station. The meeting also decided to incorporate the portions of Narayanganj and Gazipur districts that fall within RAJUK's Eastern New Town Project into Dhaka District."
According to the NICAR proposal, Fatikchhari North Upazila has been formed by combining six unions of Fatikchhari Upazila in Chattogram. Bangra Upazila has been created by dividing Muradnagar Upazila in Cumilla. South Gafargaon Upazila has been established by incorporating the eight unions under Pagla Police Station of Gafargaon Upazila in Mymensingh.
In addition, Halda Police Station has been established by dividing Hathazari Police Station in Chattogram.
The NICAR meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, was attended by Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muqtadir, Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman, Road Transport Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam, Housing Minister Zakaria Taher, State Minister for Public Administration Abdul Bari, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister ABM Abdus Sattar, and the secretaries of the relevant ministries.
