In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Press Conference on the Nationwide Program ‘Victory Torch Road Show in the Month of Victory’
Venue: BNP Chairperson’s Office, Gulshan
Date: 29 November (Saturday), 5 PM
Assalamu Alaikum,
Dear journalist friends,
At the outset, I extend my heartfelt greetings to you on the occasion of Bangladesh’s glorious 55th Victory Day 2025. Through you, I also convey congratulations to the nation on breaking free from the chains of subjugation.
Dear journalist friends,
For more than one and a half decades, the people of Bangladesh were deprived of their democratic rights and subjected to oppression under fascist rule. Through continuous anti-fascist movements and struggles, and with the supreme sacrifice of thousands of martyrs, the country was finally freed from fascism in 2024. For the democracy-loving and freedom-seeking people of Bangladesh, the joy of victory is now filled with a profound new meaning in a fascism-free Bangladesh.
To make this moment of victory for the country and its people even more colourful, joyful, and meaningful, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has taken elaborate programs across the country to celebrate the glorious 55th Victory Day. As part of these initiatives, BNP will hold various programs including discussions and a Victory Road Show throughout the month.
Under this program, from 1 December to 16 December, a special nationwide event titled ‘Victory Torch Road Show in the Month of Victory’ will be organized.
Today’s press conference is to present before you the details of this Victory Torch Road Show.
Dear journalist friends,
You are aware that in March 1971, Major Ziaur Rahman made the declaration of independence from the Kalurghat Radio Station in Chattogram. Thus, Kalurghat is an inseparable part of our independence and Liberation War. From this historic radio station, BNP’s Victory Month celebrations will commence this year.
On 1 December, the Victory Torch will begin its journey from the historic Kalurghat Radio Centre in Chattogram—an iconic site in Bangladesh’s independence and Liberation War. The torch rally will start from Kalurghat and reach Chattogram's Biploy Udyan on the same day. The Victory Torch will be carried by one distinguished freedom fighter from 1971 and one “July Fighter” from 2014. We believe that the Liberation War of 1971 was for achieving independence, and 2024 was to protect that independence for the nation and its people.
Starting from Chattogram on 1 December, the Victory Torch Road Show and rallies will consecutively take place in Cumilla, Sylhet, Mymensingh, Bogura, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, and Faridpur. In every division, the torch will be carried by one prominent freedom fighter and one July Fighter.
During this two-week special Road Show, various Liberation War memorial sites in the divisions will be visited. National anthem, songs of the Liberation War, patriotic songs, selected speeches of the Proclaimer of Independence Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, the Mother of Democracy Begum Khaleda Zia, and the Acting Chairman of BNP Tarique Rahman will be broadcast. There will also be cultural programs performed by JASAS and documentary screenings.
At the same time, BNP’s 31-point program to build a safe, prosperous, and democratic Bangladesh will be presented to the public.
The theme song for the entire campaign is “Bangladesh Comes First.”
After travelling through all divisions of the country, the Victory Torch will finally reach Dhaka on 16 December. On the same day, the Victory Torch Road Show will conclude with a grand rally at Manik Mia Avenue. Alongside this special program, other Victory Month initiatives will also continue.
Dear journalist friends,
From 1971 until today, countless people have laid down their lives. With the sacrifice of millions, we achieved the independent Bangladesh of 1971, the anti-imperialist Bangladesh of November 7, 1975, the anti-autocratic Bangladesh of 1990, and the anti-fascist Bangladesh of 2024.
Why did so many martyrs give their lives without hesitation at every turning point in our history? What were the dreams of our martyrs?
Let this Victory Day be a pledge to build the Bangladesh of their dreams.
To fulfill the dreams of our martyrs, the upcoming national election in February is a great opportunity for the freedom-loving, democracy-seeking people of Bangladesh.
Dear journalist friends,
We hope that through you, our initiative will reach the citizens of the country.
Thank you for listening to our statement.
