Statement of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir
“A Meeting Where Bangladesh Emerged Victorious”
Today, BNP’s Acting Chairman Mr. Tarique Rahman held a meeting in London with the visiting Chief Advisor, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. The meeting was held in a very cordial and constructive environment.
The fruitful consensus reached in this meeting—regarding holding the national election before the upcoming month of Ramadan—has brought a message of relief and new hope to the people of Bangladesh, dispelling uncertainty.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Professor Muhammad Yunus for recognizing the expectations of the nation and for proposing a rational timeline for the election, shifting away from the previously undesirable timeframe like April. His timely and realistic decision reflects his understanding of the people’s sentiments and is certainly commendable.
By embodying the principle of "Bangladesh First," Mr. Tarique Rahman has once again proven that the nation's interests, sovereignty, and stability are his top priorities. Through responsible flexibility in the face of the nation's needs, he has demonstrated that he is not only a powerful leader on the streets but also equally capable and visionary at the discussion table and in positive political dialogue.
Presenting the Chief Advisor with two books—“No One Is Too Small to Make a Difference” and “Nature Matters: Vital Poems from the Global Majority”—alongside a pen, Mr. Rahman introduced a new dimension of political courtesy and knowledge-driven statecraft.
We firmly believe that this cordial understanding between the largest political party and the head of the interim government will pave the way for the victory of democracy, the victory of Bangladesh, and the victory of the people—In shaa Allah.
Now, the expectation is that the interim government will remain firm in its commitment and begin full-scale preparations to hold the national election before the upcoming Ramadan.
