Tribute and Love from Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Mr Tarique Rahman on the Birth Anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam

On the 127th birth anniversary of the beloved National Poet of Bangladesh, Kazi Nazrul Islam, I pay my deepest respect and heartfelt love to his ever-glorious memory. I remember him with endless gratitude and pray for the eternal peace of his departed soul.

Kazi Nazrul Islam remains an unforgettable figure in our national history. His emergence in the destiny of a subjugated, oppressed, and defeated nation was like a beacon of light — a guiding lighthouse. At a time when a dying nation needed an extraordinary force of talent to awaken its spirit, raise consciousness, and build self-reliance, our National Poet emerged as that long-awaited and cherished genius.

The entire life of Kazi Nazrul Islam was a declaration of struggle — an extraordinary rebellion. His rebellion stood against colonial rule, subjugation, oppression, exploitation, inequality, discrimination, superstition, religious extremism, and communalism; in essence, against all injustice, unfairness, and evil.

No one has created more artistically powerful words than he did in defense of humanity, freedom, a society free from exploitation, and women's emancipation. He was our first poet, journalist, and political thinker to demand complete independence for the subcontinent against colonial domination. His compassion and unwavering commitment toward people regardless of nation, religion, race, or identity remain unparalleled.

He remains one of our foremost guides in loving our motherland. Our lives, aspirations, dreams, struggles, literature, culture, history, and heritage have found magnificent expression and vitality through his works. His creativity belongs to people of all generations and all times. In standing against injustice and oppression, he remains one of our greatest inspirations. His relevance and necessity will never diminish.

During our Liberation War and the July Mass Uprising, his poetry and songs served as powerful sources of inspiration. Likewise, throughout our movements and struggles, his creative works became the language of resistance and protest. He is an inseparable part of our everyday life. His arrival in Bengali poetry and music was extraordinary — like a comet of wonder and brilliance. Through merely two decades of literary dedication, he instilled confidence in a nation and built the foundation of our national literature and culture.

In every true sense, he was a standard-bearer of national renaissance. Though he is the National Poet of Bangladesh, he also belongs to deprived and oppressed people across the world.

Bangladesh and Kazi Nazrul Islam are inseparable entities. He remains an important figure in the global literary community. He is a worthy representative of our national identity, a symbol of our national consciousness, and a pioneer of our nationalism.

On the birth anniversary of our National Poet, let our pledge be to erase injustice, inequality, hunger, poverty, and division; to place Bangladesh above all else; to make our independence meaningful; and to dedicate ourselves to building a happy, prosperous, democratic motherland.
