Message from BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Mr Tarique Rahman on the Occasion of the 80th Anniversary and 81st Foundation Day of Dhaka Medical College

The progress of a nation does not depend solely on economic development; it also depends on a healthy, skilled, and compassionate population. Quality medical education, research, and modern healthcare services play an indispensable role in building that foundation. For eight decades, Dhaka Medical College has made a unique contribution to the advancement of medical education and healthcare in the country, which is a matter of national pride. To further strengthen this legacy, the government is working with the highest priority on healthcare, medical education, research, and the development of skilled human resources.

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary and 81st Foundation Day of Dhaka Medical College, I extend my heartfelt greetings and congratulations to its former and current students, officers, and staff.

Since its establishment on 10 July 1946, Dhaka Medical College has emerged as one of the principal pillars of medical education and healthcare in Bangladesh. Throughout this long journey, the institution has produced countless skilled, compassionate, and patriotic physicians who have upheld Bangladesh’s reputation at home and abroad through professional excellence, leadership, and service.

The nation remembers with deep respect the contributions of Dhaka Medical College’s teachers, students, and alumni during the Language Movement of 1952, the Liberation War of 1971, the anti-autocracy movement of 1990, the student–people’s uprising of 2024, as well as during national crises, natural disasters, and public health challenges.

In today’s world, the fields of medical science, technology, and healthcare are changing rapidly. Artificial intelligence, research-based knowledge, and modern medical technologies are opening new possibilities for the health sector.

I believe that, carrying forward its glorious heritage, Dhaka Medical College will continue to play a pioneering role in producing world-class physicians, researchers, and health leaders. I also believe that doctors engaged in health research will further enrich the country’s healthcare sector.

Drawing inspiration from its proud 80-year legacy and the spirit of its 81st Foundation Day, I hope that Dhaka Medical College will continue to open new horizons of excellence in knowledge, compassion, research, and service.

I am confident that all teachers, students, and physicians associated with the Dhaka Medical College family, who are well established at home and abroad, will continue to play a leading role in the welfare of the country and the nation. I call upon them to come forward for the overall welfare of their beloved institution, to support students in their education, and to serve patients during critical moments for the nation. In doing so, they will be able to repay, at least in part, their debt to this institution.
