Message by Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Mr. Tarique Rahman on the Occasion of World Population Day 2026

Improving the quality of life of the people and ensuring that every citizen enjoys a healthy, educated, skilled, and dignified life is one of the foremost commitments of the present government. The government is working tirelessly to build a prosperous, inclusive, and self-reliant Bangladesh by transforming demographic potential into a driving force for sustainable development, strengthening human resource development, expanding universal healthcare, reinforcing family planning programmes, and empowering women and young people.

One of the key objectives of our development journey is to transform the potential of our youth into the driving force of national progress. To achieve this goal, the government is implementing multifaceted initiatives that integrate education, skills development, employment, healthcare, and family planning. On the occasion of World Population Day 2026, I call upon the people of the country, especially the younger generation, to actively embrace and promote the spirit of this important day.

This year's World Population Day theme, “Realising the hopes and aspirations of young people today and for the future,” is closely aligned with our national vision for development.

The future of Bangladesh depends on a generation that is educated, skilled, technologically capable, healthy, compassionate, and innovative. To nurture the dreams and potential of young people, the state must ensure an environment where they can receive quality education, access employment opportunities, benefit from modern healthcare, and build safe, dignified, and happy families based on their own aspirations, abilities, and values.

Today's youth are the principal driving force of a knowledge-based and technology-driven economy. The government is committed to building a Bangladesh where every young man and woman acquires modern skills, demonstrates their capabilities in both domestic and global labour markets, and plays an effective role in national development.

We believe that when economic security, social stability, and an advanced healthcare system are ensured, young people will be able to plan their future with confidence and make informed decisions on important matters such as building responsible families.

A healthy population is the foundation of a developed nation. To achieve this goal, the government is working to ensure accessible, high-quality, and accountable healthcare services for all. At the same time, initiatives are underway to strengthen family planning programmes, expand technology-driven healthcare services, and develop a skilled workforce. These integrated efforts will build a stronger foundation for the healthcare system of the future.

However, challenges such as child marriage, adolescent pregnancy, and malnutrition continue to hinder the development and progress of our younger generation. These are not merely issues affecting individual girls or families; they have long-term consequences for human resource development, educational continuity, women's empowerment, maternal and child health, and national productivity. Therefore, the government is implementing integrated programmes to prevent child marriage, expand quality sexual and reproductive healthcare services for adolescents, improve nutrition, and strengthen life skills-based education and services.

I firmly believe that if every young person is given equal opportunities to grow up healthy, educated, skilled, and confident, they will become the principal driving force behind building a prosperous, developed, and forward-looking Bangladesh.

On the occasion of World Population Day 2026, let us work together to build a Bangladesh where every young person's hopes, aspirations, and potential can flourish in reality, enabling them to play a leading role in creating a safe, prosperous, and humane future.

I wish every success to all the programmes being organised in observance of World Population Day 2026.
