Condolence Message by BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Mr. Tarique Rahman on the Passing of Former Speaker Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar

I express my profound sorrow and deepest condolences at the passing of Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar—former Acting President, former Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament), a veteran of the 1952 Language Movement, a member of the BNP National Standing Committee, and a distinguished statesman. I pray to Almighty Allah to grant him eternal forgiveness and mercy.

Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar was a wise, experienced, honest, and dedicated leader in Bangladesh's political history. Throughout his long and illustrious public career, he discharged his responsibilities as Acting President and Speaker of the National Parliament with integrity, wisdom, and an unwavering sense of duty. At different times, he also served the nation as Minister of Education, State Minister for Land, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, and State Minister for Public Works and Urban Development, among other important public offices.

The nation will always remember with deep respect his invaluable contributions to strengthening democratic institutions, promoting parliamentary culture, and advancing people-centred governance. Throughout his life, he remained steadfast in his commitment to Bangladeshi nationalism, democracy, and the rights of the people. At no stage during the party's long struggle, difficult times, or political adversity did he ever deviate from his principles. Despite political repression, persecution, and numerous challenges, he upheld nationalist ideals with dedication, wisdom, and remarkable determination.

In particular, during the prolonged 17-year struggle against authoritarian rule, he played a significant role with courage, foresight, and unwavering conviction. His outstanding contribution to the movement for restoring democracy, voting rights, and the fundamental rights of the people will remain permanently honoured in the history of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and will stand as a proud chapter in Bangladesh's democratic journey.

With his passing, the nation has lost an experienced statesman, a distinguished parliamentarian, and a true patriot. His ideals, wisdom, integrity, and lifelong public service will continue to inspire future generations of political leaders.

I pray to Almighty Allah to grant the departed soul His infinite mercy and admit him to Jannatul Ferdaws. I also extend my deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family members, relatives, colleagues, well-wishers, and countless admirers.
