Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) National Standing Committee Meeting

The National Standing Committee of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) held a meeting at the party Chairperson's Gulshan office on Saturday, 11 July 2026, at 7:30 PM. The meeting was chaired by BNP Chairman and Honourable Prime Minister Mr. Tarique Rahman.

The following members of the National Standing Committee were present:

Following detailed discussions, the Committee adopted the following decisions:

1. The Secretary General briefed the members on the implementation of the decisions taken at the previous meeting.

2. The meeting reviewed the implementation of the current BNP government's priority projects and expressed satisfaction with the progress of initiatives such as the Family Card, Farmer Card, canal excavation programme, and the allowance programmes for imams, muezzins, Hindu priests, church fathers, and Buddhist temple caretakers.

The Committee also discussed the implementation of the party's election manifesto, highly appreciated the initiatives taken by the Honourable Prime Minister, and expressed confidence that the manifesto's targets would be achieved within the stipulated timeframe.

The meeting condemned the opposition's attempts to mislead the public regarding the July Charter and the referendum and decided to intensify efforts to clearly communicate the party's position to the people. Relevant individuals and institutions were instructed to take the necessary measures.

3. The Committee discussed elections at various tiers of local government and called upon all party units to strengthen their organisational activities. It also decided to convene a meeting of the National Executive Committee as soon as possible and entrusted the Secretary General with making the necessary arrangements.

4. The Committee reviewed the results of the 2026 National Parliamentary Election and requested Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan to prepare a comprehensive report on the matter.

5. The Committee was briefed on the agreements signed during the Honourable Prime Minister's recent visits to Malaysia and China. It appreciated the mutual cooperation and development partnerships established with the two countries and considered the visits a significant diplomatic success achieved on the basis of mutual respect. The Committee congratulated and thanked the Prime Minister for the successful outcome of the visits.

6. The Committee expressed deep concern over the renewed conflict between Iran and the United States following the ceasefire. It called upon both countries to cease hostilities and resolve their differences through dialogue, noting that the conflict is causing significant economic harm to the Middle East and beyond.

7. The Committee viewed the election of Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman as President of the United Nations General Assembly as a major diplomatic achievement under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. It expressed hope that this success would further enhance Bangladesh's global standing and contribute positively to resolving the Rohingya crisis.

8. The Committee expressed deep concern over the growing drug problem in the country and urged the government to take stronger and more effective measures to combat it.

9. The Committee resolved to make party activities more dynamic and instructed all BNP units, including affiliated and associate organisations, to intensify their organisational activities.

10. The Committee expressed profound sorrow at the passing of Mizanur Rahman Sinha, former BNP Treasurer, former Member of Parliament from Munshiganj, and former Minister, as well as Harun-or-Rashid, former Member of Parliament from Brahmanbaria, former Chief Whip, and former Minister. It prayed for the eternal peace of their departed souls and extended condolences to their bereaved families.

11. The Committee expressed concern over the health of Standing Committee member, former Speaker, former Acting President, former Minister, and former Member of Parliament from Panchagarh Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar, Standing Committee member, Adviser to the current government, former Minister, and former Mayor Mirza Abbas, and Standing Committee member, former Ambassador, and Adviser to the current government Nazrul Islam Khan. It prayed to Almighty Allah for their full and speedy recovery.

At the conclusion of the meeting, BNP Chairman and Honourable Prime Minister Mr. Tarique Rahman thanked all participants and formally declared the meeting adjourned.
