BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister, Begum Khaleda Zia, has departed for Bangladesh after receiving advanced medical treatment in the United Kingdom.
Today, Monday, May 5, 2025, at 9:15 PM Bangladesh time, Begum Khaleda Zia left London’s Heathrow Airport aboard a Royal Qatar Amiri “air ambulance,” accompanied by her daughter-in-law Dr. Zubaida Rahman, Sharmila Rahman Sithi, and other companions.
The air ambulance is scheduled to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 10:30 AM Bangladesh time on May 6.
Earlier, she had left Bangladesh on January 7 for advanced medical care and arrived in the UK on January 8. She was under treatment at a specialized London clinic for 17 consecutive days. Since January 25, she had been staying at the residence of her eldest son, Tarique Rahman, under the supervision of expert physicians Professor Patrick Kennedy and Professor Jennifer Cross from the London Clinic. After nearly four months of treatment, she is now returning to Bangladesh on May 6.
Previously, on July 16, 2017, Begum Khaleda Zia had traveled to London for follow-up treatment related to her eyes and legs. After staying in London for three months, she returned to Bangladesh on October 18, 2017.
