Ten Measures Directed by the Honourable Prime Minister to Address the Disaster in the Chattogram Region

The Chattogram region is facing a serious situation due to a sudden natural disaster. Days of heavy rainfall have caused widespread flooding, leaving thousands of people in distress and affecting countless families. In response to this crisis, the Honourable Prime Minister has taken a series of prompt, humanitarian, and effective measures to bring the situation under control and support those affected.

Under the Prime Minister’s direct instructions, the situation in the disaster-hit areas is being monitored around the clock. He has directed BNP leaders and activists at all levels, regardless of political differences, to remain actively engaged on the ground and ensure maximum assistance for the affected people. At the same time, he has instructed the local administration, public representatives, and Members of Parliament to work in close coordination to manage the disaster, assess the damage, conduct rescue operations, and implement rehabilitation programmes.

Ten Key Initiatives Taken by the Honourable Prime Minister

1. Continuous Monitoring
The Prime Minister is personally monitoring the situation in the affected areas. The Prime Minister’s Office is maintaining regular communication with Deputy Commissioners (DCs), Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs), law enforcement agencies, and all relevant authorities, providing necessary guidance whenever required.

2. Opening of Shelters
A total of 1,057 emergency shelters have been opened across the disaster-affected areas of Chattogram Division, where more than 12,000 people have taken refuge.

3. Emergency Relief Assistance
Under the General Relief (GR) programme, the government has allocated BDT 21.5 million and 3,450 metric tonnes of rice for the five affected districts—Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Rangamati, Khagrachhari, and Bandarban—ensuring that relief reaches affected people as quickly as possible.

4. Essential Humanitarian Support
The government has ensured the supply of safe drinking water, sanitation facilities, healthcare services, baby food, and three daily meals in the affected areas.

5. Strengthened Rescue Operations
Considering the emergency situation, the Armed Forces have been deployed, where necessary, alongside law enforcement agencies to conduct rescue operations in the hilly areas.

6. Field Visits by Public Representatives
Members of Parliament and local public representatives have been visiting flood-affected areas across Chattogram Division, distributing relief and personally conveying the Prime Minister’s message of support while remaining alongside affected communities.

7. Nationwide Organisational Mobilisation
The ruling party, BNP, has instructed leaders and activists at every level, along with all affiliated and associate organisations, to actively support affected people. Acting on the Prime Minister’s direct instructions, the administration, relevant ministries, law enforcement agencies, the Armed Forces, and the Coast Guard are working in coordination from the field level to the national level. Every organ of the state is engaged in supporting the people during this crisis.

8. Postponement of Public Examinations
Due to flooding and landslides caused by continuous heavy rainfall, the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations in the affected areas have been postponed.

9. Support for Bereaved Families
Local administrative officials, together with local political leaders and activists, have visited the families of those who lost their lives or were otherwise affected by the disaster to express condolences and ensure that necessary assistance is provided.

10. Long-Term Infrastructure and Rehabilitation Measures
To reduce future flooding risks, the government has planned to raise the 47-kilometre Chattogram–Dohazari railway line by five feet after parts of the railway were submerged during the floods. The tender process for the project has already begun. In addition, the government will arrange safe housing for residents living in areas vulnerable to landslides.

We believe that through the government's prompt decisions, humanitarian efforts, and coordinated initiatives, we will overcome this disaster, Insha'Allah.

The Honourable Prime Minister stands beside the affected people with deep compassion and a strong sense of responsibility during this difficult time. The people's government remains committed to serving humanity in every crisis.
